Description: Orange base with yellow tips – at least this is what it is described as. This acropora is a tabling acro and does not seem to branch a lot.

Date Acquired: September 8, 2022
Current System: 100g mixed reef
PAR: 170-190

Notes: This Acropora has been both a very slow growing, and one that has primarily focused on encrusting the rock without adding any “fingers” in the year+ I have owned it.

The coloration of what you see online has not matched what I have in my tank as I show below. I have just started to see “yellow” tips after a year, and this may have more to do with it being in a new tank under different lighting than age.

For the longest time I had forgotten what this coral was and it was very disappointing. Now that I have “remembered” what it is, I am going to see if I can get some coloration out of it before judging too harshly. In my quick research on other reefers experiences, this seems to be common with Fox Flame (slow growth, poor coloration, no tip color, until a lengthy delay after adding to your tank).

While certainly not a long time, this photo highlights some growth over a period of December 15, 2023 to January 1, 2024 (December is on the right). A few small additions that I could spot, along with what seems to be better coloration. In the December photo, you have some disco light effect from the lights but the blueish, or non-red color, is more than just disco effect. So overall the encrustation seems to be turning into a more red color.
